before we get over-excited - the above guesstimates are SwissPerfect calculations based upon pre-glicko days, I bumped the multiplier up to 25 but it doesn't take RD into account etc etc

Toukley Open 2008

A Category 1 Grand Prix weekend event

History:

The traditional host of this tournament, the Toukley White Knight

Chess Club, has folded. But as a former White Knight who has never allowed

his mediocrity at the board to dull his love of the game (particularly his love of

weekenders) I did not want to see the event abandoned.

There's something special about weekenders, particularly the country

ones -- the getaways for those who believe too much chess is never

enough. The Newcastle, Dubbo, Laurieton, Gosford, Coffs Harbour, Blayney

and, of course, Toukley weekenders each have their own characteristics and

and serve as annual reunions of chess-playing friends and acquaintenances.

I like being part of the country circuit.

Not long ago you could count on the Toukley weekender to draw more than

50 players. I must take the blame for it drawing only 20 last year. My

promotional efforts were minimal. This time I hope to do better.

Local players Keith Farrell and John Pascoe have my gratitude for their offers

of help with the running of this year's event.

Looking forward to seeing you here,

Gary Losh

Venue:

Toukley RSL Club, Holmes Ave, Toukley

The club opens at 9.30am

Toukley is about 50 minutes north of Hornsby. The Toukley exit from the

Sydney-Newcastle Freeway is a few kilometres north of the Wyong exit.

Date: :::::::::::: February 9 and 10.

Schedule::::::::::::::Registration on Saturday from 9.30 to 9.50am,

Round 1 at 10am, Round 2 at 1pm, Round 3 at 3.30pm, Round 4 at 6pm

Round 5 on Sunday at 10am,  Round 6 at 1pm, Round 7 at 3.30pm

presentation as soon as possible after the final round.

Time control:  1 hour plus 10 seconds per move from the start.

Prizes:

All entry fees less direct expenses will be returned as prizemoney. We

expect to pay 1st, 2nd and 3rd in the Open. There will also be a number of

ratings division prizes and, depending on the number of entrants, junior

prizes. At the discretion of the organisers cash prizes may be given to

reward those who perform markedly above their ratings.

Entry fees:

Adult $40, Junior and Concession $30 (cash only, please). Those claiming

concession must show pension card or evidence of full-time student status.

Rated event:

As of the beginning of this year, the NSW Chess Association will not allow

any games of a tournament to be rated unless all players (except juniors and

interstaters) have either paid a once-yearly $10 ratings registration fee or are

members of the Association. To ensure our tournament will be rated, each

entrant's name will be checked against a list provided by NSWCA on the eve

of the tournament. Those not on the list will be asked to pay the $10 fee,

which will be forwarded to the Association and will enable the player to enter

rated torunaments for the remainder of the year.

The following accommodation has been selected primarily with price in mind.

If you find better value from your own research, please advise so that we may

add to the list.
